 about

Roger Henry. French painter born in 1954.

After studying in Paris, as well as at the Conservatoire des Ocres, I studied ancient techniques based on natural earths, ochres, pigments. Passionate about history, meetings with eminent researchers will be the revealing support of my artistic approach. I like to associate the trace of man with his contemporary evolution, in search of an ancestral symbolism that is still alive.

From travels to encounters, in Lascaux, Stone-Hendge, in Mont-Bego, a concept was born, focused on the very essence of man, space and matter, power and the sacred. The immersion  as a tribe in the Loyalty Islands, the story told on the engraved bamboos are all signs of life, encounters that nourish my work:  the link between man, nature and the cosmos, symbolic food anchored in the rules of harmony. The paintings are created from natural materials, pigments, collages of plants, original manuscripts from the 18th century on canvas.

“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.”
